Because a wood diet is notoriously nitrogen deficient, the way that nitrogen is allocated during development in the wood-feeding cockroach Cryptocercus punctulatus is important in explaining its success. We examined cuticular nitrogen investment associated with molting cycles in several developmental stages of this cockroach and report the results in the context of the nitrogen economy of this species.
