Ground beetles of the genus Bembidion are a highly diverse group of small beetles common to various riparian habitats. Many undescribed species are currently known to exist within the group, and many more await discovery. The subgenus Notaphus contains several challenging species groups in which the apparent species differ very subtly in both morphological characters and in DNA sequences of multiple genes. We report on progress of the revisionary efforts within the low-elevation subgenus Notaphus and the high-elevation Bembidion breve species complex, using a combination of morphological studies, and extensive DNA sequencing, including the use of next-generation sequencing of pinned museum specimens.  We also report our use of genomic and transcriptomic resources in developing a hybrid captured based probe for use within the group.
