Next generation sequencing techniques are rapidly changing the nature of evolutionary biology and systematics. Even modest projects are capable of generating large amounts of useful sequence data with minimal effort. Here we present preliminary analyses of shallow-scale genome sequences obtained from several of beetles in suborder Adephaga, with an emphasis on potential phylogenetic utility and applications.
