Caenophanes, with 15 described species, is a little known genus of parasitoid wasps belonging to the family Braconidae, subfamily Doryctinae.  All the described species are from the old world, but there is now evidence that the genus is cosmopolitan: this evidence is herein presented.  Unrecognized specimens are probably held in existing collections, likely labeled as Heterospilus sp.  The similarities and differences between Heterospilus and Caenophanes are discussed.
