Laboratory evaluation of fluid baits for remedial control of subterranean termites

A fluid bait formulation was developed for remedial control of subterranean termites.  The fluid bait formulation comprised of cellulose powder impregnated with 0.5% hexaflumuron (AI wt/wt) and homogeneously mixed with methylcel solution was injected into simulated foraging galleries of laboratory arenas containing C. formosanus or R. virginicus.   Following the bait applications, termites moved the feeding medium throughout the tunnel system, and by 3rd week, some workers in treated arenas began to show symptoms of hexaflumuron effects.  Mortality of both termite species in treated arenas at 8th week was 100%.
