The tarnished plant bug (Lygus lineolaris) is the most economically important insect pest of cotton in the Mid-Southern region of the cotton belt. Previous research has been conducted to investigate how varietal maturity and planting date effect tarnished plant bug populations, however, there has been limited research to address the influence of canopy structure on tarnished plant bug populations. This paper addresses how manipulation of nitrogen rates in cotton influence tarnished plant bug populations by affecting canopy structure.
