A revision and phylogenetic analysis of the genus Paranota Monrós & Viana 1949 is presented. The revision was based on a detailed study of the type species’ morphology and on the external morphology of the other included species. As result, the genus and species are redescribed and key to the genus is provided; the transference of P. parallela to Dorynota (Dorynota): Dorynota (Dorynota) parallela new comb.. is proposed; Paranota rugosa reviewed status. is restated; the geographic distribution of two species is extended. The phylogenetic analysis counted with the use of 24 adult morphological characters for the genus and six outgroup species, representing the five genera within the tribe. Parsimony analysis located the five most parsimonious trees. The strict consensus (CI=0.61, RI=0.50, Steps=109) resolved the monophyly of Paranota, which is supported by  pronotum with smooth surface, pronotum median longitudinal line elevated, antennomere I globose at apex and well-marked asymmetric claws.
