Cold-specialized insects have been useful for tracking the influence of climate change on biodiversity, providing important insight on regional climate history and the link between species ecology, climate and evolutionary diversity. Here I synthesize previous work on the biogeography and species diversity of Grylloblattidae. I provide a unified treatment of their response to past climate change and explore how ecological differences and regional climate relate to species diversity. Finally, I introduce new results on the evolutionary divergence of thermotolerance, using genome-wide gene expression data.
