The lack of data on the populations of spiders on the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge prompted this preliminary survey of wolf spiders (Aranae: Lycosidae). The application for a special use permit to collect spiders on the refuge was enthusiastically approved by the refuge manager. Pitfall traps as well as nocturnal, diurnal and crepuscular collecting are being used. Approximately 10 species have been collected at this time but the study is ongoing.
