A common assumption of resistance management is that alleles conferring resistance are rare when a new management technology is introduced. In this talk, I review the evidence from the published literature and consider if alleles conferring resistance to Bt Cry toxins have ever been rare in western corn rootworm populations and if not, what this may imply for resistance management.
