The hybrid maize product Agrisure DuracadeTM developed by Syngenta Seeds, Inc. contains the plant incorporated protectants (PIP) of highly selective and effective Bacillus thuringiensis­ (Bt) derived insecticidal protein eCry3.1Ab. This protein is highly active against the larvae of two economically important coleopteran pests of maize, the western corn rootworm (WCRW) Diabrotica virgifera virgifera and the northern corn rootworm (NCRW) Diabrotica. barberi.
