The stripped bark scorpion, Centruroides vittatus (Buthidae), has an exceptionally widespread distribution in North America making it the most common scorpion in the United States. Haplotype diversity throughout their range and possible routes of expansion into the Arkansas Ozarks was evaluated using DNA sequences of the mitochondrial DNA marker cytochrome oxidase subunit 1.  There seems to be considerable intraspecific and interspecific variation among populations.
