New findings concerning phylogeny of dorylomorphs, a clade containing army ants and related taxa, are discussed. The genera Cerapachys and Sphinctomyrmex are found to be paraphyletic and require splitting into multiple taxa in order to maintain monophyly. This work will be a foundation for redefining the genera of dorylomorphs to provide a more natural classification. The lineages recognized with morphology are supported by independent investigation using molecular data. Detailed morphological study reveals many new characters useful for classification and identification of these ants.
