Exhibit Hall 3, First Floor (Reno-Sparks Convention Center)
Wintering of sweetpotato whitefly (Bemisia tabasi Gennadius) was observed in plastic greenhouse of earlier transplanting (24. Oct.) practiced oriental melon and in nursery facilities. Pupa was survived under -12.8 Celsius of outside temperature. Four to thirty three individuals of imago were observed from oriental melon plant debris in plastic greenhouse and one to three individuals of imago were trapped on open field in winter season. To evaluate the efficiency of adult attraction, we have tried fifty color sticky trap, seven LEDs(Light Emitting Diodes) and combining of color strap and LEDs. Combination of deep yellow(Munsell color 2.5YR, Brightness 8.0, Chroma 14) color trap and LEDs(390nm and 450nm) showed good capturing efficiency. A new sticky trap, combined deep yellow colored and 390nm LED, showed that capturing of sweetpotato whitefly was increased by 158%, compared commercial yellow sticky trap.
