0901 Social dimensions of aging in honey bee workers
Tuesday, November 15, 2011: 9:40 AM
Room A17, First Floor (Reno-Sparks Convention Center)
The honeybee Apis mellifera is an emerging model for aging research to test general hypotheses in a novel context and ask unique questions due to the social evolution of this species. Here, I will combine empirical studies with theoretical analyses to demonstrate that sociality, particularly social behavior, has a profound effect on the mortality dynamics of individual worker bees.
