We have tested numerous systemic insecticides for control of the Dectes stem borer, Dectes texanus LeConte, in soybean plants. Only one insecticide, fipronil, clearly controls the Dectes stem borer as a soil or foliar treatment. In 2006 we tested fipronil for the first time as a seed treatment and observed excellent control. We will be reporting these results as well as results from our 2007 trials and hope to confirm that fipronil seed treatments are effective in managing the Dectes stem borer larvae in soybeans.
