The Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki, is a very destructive insect causing serious damage in the French Quarter, New Orleans, Louisiana. Trees and woody plants may be reservoirs for Formosan subterranean termites to infest structures. Trees and woody plants were inspected visually and using an acoustical probe for evidence of Formosan subterranean termites beginning in 2004. Formosan subterranean termites were found infesting 39 trees (~ 2 %) and 17 properties (< 2 %). Infested trees were treated with baits (13 properties) and liquid termiticides (4 properties). Inspections, re-inspections, and treatment of infested trees are continuing in an effort to further reduce the densities of termites in the program area.
