A lack of detailed morphological studies within the family Bothrideridae (Cucujoidea) has led to taxonomic problems including rampant synonyms and incorrect generic assignments. A morphological analysis of several members of the genus Deretaphrus Newman was performed as a precursor to a generic revision. Key characters were identified that may serve to diagnose species. Specimens were dissected and structures were drawn and photographed for comparison.
