Host plant resistance to Tomato spotted wilt virus and thrips vectors in tomato and pepper

David G. Riley, dgr@uga.edu, University of Georgia, Entomology, P.O. Box 1209, Tifton, GA

Field evaluations of plant cultivars resistant to thrips-vectored Tomato spotted wilt virus were conducted in 2006 and 2007 at the Coastal Plain Experiment Station at Tifton, GA. High levels of resistance were observed in both tomato and pepper lines, but primarily to the virus, not to the thrips vectors. Host plant resistance has become the primary tactic for control of this pest problem in the Southeastern USA.
