Community involvement as a path to sustainable termite management

Community buy-in is the only way to sustain area-wide pest management programs without the need for perpetual government inputs. A successful school-based education and outreach program in Hawaii provides both lessons and a model for implementing such sustainable programs. Lessons learned from this program and from other efforts, both national and international, to involve the community in termite management are discussed.
