Paleomorphus hirsutimarginatus, a new genus and species of handsome fungus beetle (Coleoptera: Endomychidae) from Dominican amber

Floyd Shockley, FShockley@bugs.ent.uga.edu, University of Georgia, Department of Entomology, 413 Biological Sciences Bldg, Athens, GA

A new genus and species of Endomychidae is described from Dominican amber. The features of this species cannot easily fit into any currently recognized genus or subfamily of Endomychidae. A preliminary phylogenetic analysis including the new species and exemplars of all endomychid subfamilies identifies problems with the current subfamilial definitions and confirms that the new species cannot be accommodated by any of them as they are currently defined.
