Trace amounts of the steroidal glycoalkaloid solasodine are found in the young leaves of
Solanum viarum fed upon by
Anthonomus tenebrosus. Solasodine was evaluated as an attractant for
A. tenebrosus. Solasodine concentrations of 0.03%, 0.09%, and 0.27% added to an artificial diet were based on amounts found in the foliage of various
Solanum species. Adult feeding behavior, oviposition, fecundity, and mortality were recorded in laboratory trials.
