Feeding damage by Lygus nymphs and adults was evaluated for Bt cotton (DP 499 BR) during 2005 in New Mexico. Different densities of nymphs (4th and 5th instars) and adults were caged on whole plants and individual squares and bolls of different ages. Lygus were field-collected from alfalfa, identified to species and stadium, and starved for a 24 hr period before transfer to cages. Potential impact of late-season drought stress on Lygus-damaged cotton also is evaluated.
