Morphometric comparisons of Reticulitermes species found in forested and urban environments of Missouri

Olga P. Pinzon, oppvv2@mizzou.edu, University of Missouri, Department of Entomology, Columbia, MO and Richard M. Houseman, housemanr@missouri.edu, University of Missouri, Department of Entomology, 1-87 Agriculture Building, Columbia, MO.

Subterranean termites were collected in 2004 and 2005 from eight forested areas and eight cities in the northern, central and southern regions of the state of Missouri. Samples were also obtained by professional pest management companies from home infestations throughout the state. Samples consisted of at least one of the following: workers, soldiers or adults. Two-hundred and eighty samples from natural areas, 170 samples from urban areas, and 205 samples from home infestations were studied. Morphometric characters were measured in order to examine geographic differences in Reticulitermes morphology and to approximate species distribution within these habitats throughout the state.
