In 2004 we tested systemic insecticides applied as soil treatments and as foliar treatments for control of Dectes stem borers inside the soybean plant. Treatments were applied in mid-July and early August to target the first and second instars developing within the plant. Two soil applied and two foliar applied insecticides appeared to give significant control. Regent SC applied as a foliar treatment gave 100% control of Dectes stem borers. The Regent SC treatment also gave a significant 10% increase in grain yield. This appears to have been the first time insecticide treatments were effective enough against the Dectes stem borers to demonstrate a yield response. Additional studies are in progress during the summer of 2005 and this data will be included in the presentation.
