Comparison of the short-range mosquito attractants Lurex® and octenol for collecting Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae)

Whitney Qualls, quallwa@auburn.edu, Auburn University, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, 301 Funchess Hall, Auburn, AL

During the summer of 2005, two six-week field studies were performed to evaluate the short-rang mosquito attractants 1-octen-3-ol (octenol) and Lurex® on their ability to enhance collections of Aedes albopictus using the Mosquito Magnet ProTM trap. Both field trails were conducted at an automobile salvage and tire yard at Phenix City, Alabama. The first field trial evaluated the trap with and without Lurex®. The second field trial compared Lurex® and octenol.

Species 1: Diptera Culicidae Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito)
