The profitability from sericulture depends largely on two points namely 1. Production of mulberry leaf at economic cost and its nutritive suitability for the silk worm and .2. Availability of locally suitable high yielding silk worm races. In the present studies the rearing performance of silk worm Bombyx Mori L. larvae ( Hybrid race between P.M. x NB4D2.) that were fed with M-5 and Local Mulberry varieties were recorded and compared . The experimental results showed that the varietyM-5 found to be superior than the local variety with reference to larval weight and duration . Within a shorter time the larvae fed with M-5 variety leaves gained higher larval weights than with the local variety . The increase in the larval weight resulted in good cocoon yields and quality silk production.
