Experiences and opportunities in the development of agricultural biotechnology products at Dow AgroSciences

Ed King, jeking@dow.com, Gary Thompson, gdthompson@dow.com, Barb Nead-Nylander, banead-nylander@dow.com, Eric Flora, eaflora@dow.com, and Mike Chambers, dmchambers@dow.com. Dow AgroSciences, 9330 Zionsville Road, Indianapolis, IN

This presentation will describe some of the unique experiences involved in the research and development of biotechnology products at Dow AgroSciences (e.g., corn and cotton), with focus on research techniques/protocols, compliance regulations and training needs that differ from what are typically employed in the development of “conventional” agricultural pesticides. The presentation will also discuss the skill sets and experiences that DAS is seeking in the recruitment of new talent for the growing biotechnology/plant breeding research departments. This presentation should give an appreciation for the new types of resources, planning and skill sets that a basic manufacturer needs to consider in the development of biotechnology products.
