Experiences of an Interim Associate Director of Extension and Applied Research

Randall A. Higgins, rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu, Kansas State University, Entomology, 123 West Waters Hall, Manhattan, KS

A few years ago I reported on my year-long experiences while serving as the Interim Entomology Department Head at Kansas State University. During the last two years, I had the unexpected opportunity to serve as the Interim Associate Director for Extension and Applied Research at K-State. This poster will provide insight into the responsibilities of a chief executive officer in charge of day-to-day management and leadership of all areas of Extension at a Land-Grant University. These responsibilities spanned Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H, county operations, budgetary and personnel management, strategic planning, politics, conflict management, program development, and related administrative issues associated with delivering "Knowledge for Life" to all Kansans.
