Studies were conducted at the University of Kentucky to determine the economic injury levels and economic thresholds for the European corn borer and corn leaf aphid on high-oil corn (HOC). HOC is produced via the Topcross® production system where a seed blend of two hybrids are planted to produce grain with elevated oil concentrations. Field observations and greenhouse experiments were performed to better understand the differential attraction and interactions between these pests on the two hybrids. Correlations and overall effects of different types of damage within the Topcross® production system are described.

Species 1: Lepidoptera Crambidae Ostrinia nubilalis (European corn borer)
Species 2: Homoptera Aphididae Rhopalosiphum maidis (corn leaf aphid)
Keywords: high-oil corn
