Of bacteria, worms, flies, moose and bears

Moose (Alces alces) and bears (Ursus sp.) can be infected with the filarial worms, Onchocerca cervipedis and Dirofilaria ursi respectively. Both filaria are vectored by insects and do not appear to cause overt pathology in their hosts. This work compares the taxonomic relationship of both filarial species with other members of their genus, as well as the Wolbachia symbionts they harbor and tests for the existence of host (filarial) and parasite (Wolbachia) congruence.
