Dispersal flight pattern and distance of alates of Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki were studied during the months of May and June 2004 in the New Orleans French Quarter. On ten separate evenings, emergent alates were dusted with fluorescing visible powders of varied color. Over 440 insect glue boards attached to lampposts throughout the French Quarter were examined for recaptured alates. As a result, marked alates were recovered 2 to 892m from the dispersal flight origin. The distribution of the recovery was primarily north to northwest of the site of marking, following prevailing wind patterns. The spatial distribution of each marking and the environmental conditions at the time of each dispersal flight will be discussed. The increased possibilities of reinvasion within an area-wide treatment zone will also be discussed.
