Reticulitermes flavipes incipient colonies were censused approximately 10 or 16 months following removal of the primary reproductive pair. Changes in caste composition were noted in approximately 50 colonies maintained in the laboratory. Orphaned colonies contained variable numbers of neotenic reproductives, eggs, larvae, and other castes.
