Investigations into dispersal of Grapholita molesta in commercial apple and peach orchards

Nicolas Ellis, nhe101@psu.edu and Larry Hull, lah4@psu.edu. Penn State University, PSU-FREC, 290 University Drive, Biglerville, PA

Male oriental fruit moth males were marked with fluorescent powder and released into commercial apple and peach orchards. They were recaptured in pheromone traps spaced 50m apart. Response variables such as total number of moths recaptured, distances flown from the release point were quantified and analyzed by way of categorical data analysis. Records of weather data were also integrated into the analysis. Inferences about the moths' dispersal patterns in relation to the host crop phenology and environmental conditions were made.
