Nursery-grown maples in Kentucky are attacked by several major insect pests including the potato leafhopper, flatheaded apple tree borer, and shoot-boring caterpillars. This poster describes a new project to evaluate reduced-risk management tactics including multiple host plant resistance, use of koalin clay particle film barriers to deter borers, and soil-applied systemic insecticides for season-long protection from multiple pests. Preliminary observations on biology of maple shoot borers will also be presented.
