Nebraska cattle infested with 3 species of cattle lice (little blue, long-nosed and chewing) were treated with 2.46% spinosid (Elector) at rates of 8 and 16 ml per 440 lb. body weight, permethrin 1.0% was applied a at rate of 1/2 oz. per 100 lb. body weight and untreated cattle were used as a comparison. Ten yearling heifers were used in each treatment. Lice numbers were monitored weekly for 8 weeks. Elector at both rates and permethrin provided complete control of the biting lice. Elector at the high rate provided 83% control of the little blue louse and 89% control for the long-nosed louse. Permethrin and the low rate of Elector were somewhat less effective on the sucking lice species.
