e-NTOMOLOGY: Publishing an ebook: but will they read it?

Paul D. Bell, pbell@flemingc.on.ca, Fleming College, Forestry/Arboriculture, 200 Albert Street S, Lindsay, ON, Canada

The Internet first appealed to my students and me in the early 1990's an innovative research tool for entomology. Teaching myself html, I began assembling an interactive, multimedia enhanced Forest Entomology and Pathology, web-based course in 1994 ( http://gaia.flemingc.on.ca/~pbell ).

In 2003, I published my first eBook with ETEXT.com. Students now have wireless access to all lectures and assignments via a PDA or through any computer. The grades of students with eBook access were significantly higher than those who took notes in a classroom based course. Concerns related to web-based research and electronic publishing will be discussed.
