Towards a phylogenetic system of New World derelomine flower weevils

Nico M. Franz, nmf2@cornell.edu, Cornell University, Department of Entomology, Ithaca, NY

Derelomine flower weevils have longstanding, economically important, and remarkably specialized associations with palms and other plants such as members of the Neotropical family Cyclanthaceae. Here I present results from an analysis of 115 taxa (40+ genera), together with selected illustrations and scanning electron micrographs of over 150 homologous morphological characters. These form the basis for a revised classification of derelomines.

Species 1: Coleoptera Curculionidae Derelomus chamaeropsis
Species 2: Coleoptera Curculionidae Phyllotrox semirufus
Species 3: Coleoptera Curculionidae Staminodeus vectoris
Keywords: systematics, weevils
