Adapting the model by an IPM CRSP co-investigator, a non-CRSP faculty member, and a department head

Donald E. Mullins, mullinsd@vt.edu and Richard Fell, Fell@vt.edu. Virginia Tech, Department of Entomology, Blacksburg, VA

Virginia Tech, management entity for the first 11 years of IPM CRSP, provided a rich environment to test the undergraduate model. Frequent visits of collaborating IPM CRSP-Mali scientists and many IPM CRSP Co-PIs in Entomology and other departments in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences helped undergraduate interns and externs become involved quickly in their research programs. A new entomology course was developed, “new” faculty involved, undergrads considering entomology for graduate school, and follow-on grants written.
