An independent crop consultant's view of the IPM centers' role in IPM adoption

The National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants (NAICC) is very supportive of the four IPM Centers in the US. We have representatives on several of the center’s advisory boards and specifically partner with the Center for IPM at North Carolina State University to maintain the NAICC website.

Through the networking opportunities afforded by partnering with the IPM Centers, independent crop consultants work closely with Universities, government and industry to decided which research is most affordable and realistic for America’s growers. Through the contacts made, NAICC has had the opportunity to work with industry and Universities professionals outside the Centers on other grants and projects that also further IPM promotion.

By working with the IPM Centers, our members are highly visible to the grower, other agricultural interests and the public at large. Through the periodic reports released on research funded by the IPM Centers, our members are made aware in the early stages of the potential problems facing agriculture and the possible assistance that is being developed to alleviate these problems. This timely information helps consultants prepare the grower for these ordeals and helps to further demonstrate the need for continued IPM adoption.

Having the most economical and realistic tools necessary to implement IPM programs are major factors for the adoption by the grower. Education and making IPM cost effective at the grassroots level is the key to further IPM adoption.
