400,000 species and so little time ... the Tree of Life and Chalcidoidea

John Heraty, john.heraty@citrus.ucr.edu, University of California, Entomology, 3401 Watkins Dr, Riverside, CA

Chalcidoidea are one of the most diverse and yet smallest in size of the Hymenoptera. With over 89 subfamilies and 2000 genera, deriving a phylogenetic hypothesis for the superfamily at the subfamily and tribe level will be a challenge. The flow of information from collections through gene selection, specimen vouchering for DNA, and morphological studies are critically interrelated. Initial phylogenetic results will be presented.
