Insecticides remain a critical component of many Insect Pest Management and Insect Resistance Management programs for vegetable crops in the US and around the world. The development of insecticide resistance and increasing restrictions on older insecticides requires the discovery and development of new insecticides possessing enhanced levels of efficacy coupled with reduced impact on non-target species and the environment. A variety of new insecticides, many exploiting new target sites, have been developed, or are in development, which will provide the vegetable industry with new options for insect pest control. This presentation will review many of these new chemistries and trends in insecticides for vegetable insect control.
