Knowing your bugs in the urban pest control industry

Laurel Hansen, LaurelH@spokanefalls.edu, Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Dr, Spokane, WA

Continuing education plays an important role in industry. Pest control personnel and inspectors welcome opportunities in education that provide a hands-on approach. Many educational facilities offer entrance training to various fields in pest control and pest inspections. Additional educational opportunities allow personnel to adapt to changes in the industry and to refresh earlier training. Specific workshops such as "identification of pest ants infesting structures" to general workshops such as "harmful and beneficial insects in lawn and yard care" have been welcomed by industry. Workshops and training opportunities in the these specific areas related to urban pest management will be presented.
