Eddie Cupp, Dept. of Entomology, Auburn University, Dept. of Entomology, 301 Funchess Hall, Auburn University, AL

Black fly transmitted filariasis is a significant cause of morbidity in Central and South America. Although limited geographically by the breeding sites of the Simulium vectors, important endemic foci continue to be of medical concern. Biological data, as well as current disease control status will be presented.

Species 1: Diptera Simuliidae Simulium ochraceum
Species 2: Diptera Simuliidae Simulium exiguum
Species 3: Diptera Simuliidae Simulium metallicum
Keywords: river blindness, filariasis
