Molecular genetics and geographical information systems technology are applied to the study of epidemic dengue in Mexico. Determination of the evolutionary potential of arboviruses in mosquito vectors and elucidation of gene structure and biological function relationships that contribute to vector-vertebrate cycles in nature are discussed. Molecular transformation of arthropod genomes and other genetic approaches are being used to study the molecular biology of Aedes aegypti.
