Detection of a new species in the genus Thrips (Thripidae: Thysanoptera) commonly infesting Gardenia in the Pacific Region

Thrips hilogardenis, a recently detected species from USDA, APHIS, PPQ interceptions commonly found on flowers of Gardenia from various locations in the Pacific region, is described. It is differentiated from Thrips leeuweni (Priesner), with which it was formerly confused. A section of the Palmer key which concerns these species is revised.
