Where are the maggots?

Nancy C. Hinkle, A.B. Webster, and J. Taylor. University of Georgia, Department of Entomology, 413 Biological Sciences Bldg, Athens, GA

Poultry manure is a nearly ideal habitat for house fly oviposition and larval development. However, temporal changes in physical and biological parameters cause some portions to be more acceptable and conducive than others. Effective maggot suppression is dependent on knowing where larvae are located, so that control efforts can be targeted against them. This investigation surveyed caged layer operations to determine house fly larval distribution.

Species 1: Diptera Muscidae Musca domestica (house fly)
Keywords: maggot, poultry manure
