Shuriken™ - a new tool in the battle against cockroaches and other household insect pests

Hayato Teshima and John Richard Lucas. Valent BioSciences Corporation, Environmental Health Division, 870 Technology Way, Libertyville, IL

The insecticidal activity of the novel neonicitinoid Dinotefuran (Shuriken™) against German, Oriental and American cockroaches is described. Bait formulations containing 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.5% Dinotefuran were evaluated in choice and non-choice tests and gave performance comparable or better than commercial standards. Water based ready to use 0.5% formulations gave up to 4 weeks residual performance against German cockroaches on plywood panels. Direct sprays of lower (0.05%) concentrations gave good (85 –100%) kill of a wide range of household insect pests including fleas, ants, cockroaches and mosquitoes.

Species 1: Blattodea Blattellidae Blattella germanica (German cockroach)
Species 2: Blattodea Blattidae Periplaneta americana (American Cockroach)
Species 3: Blattodea Blattidae Blatta orientalis (Oriental cockroach)
Keywords: dinotefuran
