John Richard Lucas and Hayato Teshima. Valent BioSciences Corporation, Environmental Health Division, 870 Technology Way, Libertyville, IL

The physical properties and insecticidal activity of the novel neonicitinoid Dinotefuran (Shuriken™) is described. The excellent environmental and safety profile of this chemistry is briefly reviewed. When formulated into baits at 0.1 – 1% this highly water-soluble compound gave excellent kill activity against houseflies and ants. In water-based ready to use spray presentations 0.5% Dinotefuran gave good residual performance on soil, painted wood and other substrates against a variety of public health pests.
