Discussion of the definition of the terms "koiniobiont" and "idiobiont": to what do these terms apply

S. Bradleigh Vinson, Texas A&M University, Department of Entomology, College Station, TX

These two terms were originally applied from an ecological context to whether the hosts of parasitoids were immobile or mobile following parasitism. However, some hosts are immobile prior to parasitism. Further, these terms have also been applied to parasitoids from a more physiological context of whether the parasitoid inhibits the mobility of its host or not. As a result, the definitions have become confused in some situations. These concerns will be discussed in more detail.
